Background
Busoga Shining Light Association (BSLA) was founded in 2002 and registered in 2004 as a community based farmer’s organisation by Iganga District Administration Department of Culture and Community Development.
The purpose was to bring together the small and medium holder farmers (Entrepreneurs) to form a strong co-operative society of farmers in the district. In this regard BSLA would have a forum for group marketing, information exchange and networking with developed and developing partners.

“To mobilize and train the rural community to fight poverty through progressive agriculture, saving and credit to strengthen their social-economic capacity.”
Area of Operation
BSLA is operating in the following sub-counties: Nakigo, Makuutu and Bulamagi
Objectives
Promote sustainable agriculture through: - Training farmers in record keeping - Training farmers in agronomy - Training farmers in Postharvest handling and marketing (collective marketing)
Promote thrifty among members by affording them an opportunity for accumulating their savings and to create a source of funds from which loans can be accessed.
This is done through: - Saving mobilization - Loan portfolio management - Record keeping
HIV/AIDS Education - Sensitize and inspire members with increased knowledge, skills and positive attitudes towards HIV/AIDS.
To create a forum for information exchange and networking

BSLA is in partnership and collaborating with both National and international organizations which include:
- Agricultural Sector Programme Support -Uganda (ASPS/ABDC) - Slum Doctors Programme (SDP) in USA - A World Institute for Sustainable humanity (AWISH) in USA - Local authorities in Iganga district
Achievements
- With support from ASPS we have managed to train 360 farmers in improved maize production - With support from SDP and AWISH we have managed to run an operational office. - We have managed to set up a collective marketing program with our farmers. - We have managed to support widows taking care of orphaned children.
Future Plans
- Strengthen the Board and Staff of BSLA in organizational management. - Strengthening the cooperative society through educating members and networking with other organisations. - Expand on our maize production project and marketing. - Resource mobilization to facilitate and fund our activities.
